Daniel Kondo · Selected works

Picturebooks & book-object projects

Books in which image, sequence, typography, material and the act of turning the page participate in the narrative.

Original picturebooks, visual literature and collaborations with writers and musicians, created across writing, illustration and editorial design.

The practice

A picturebook is read with the eyes, the hands and the time between one page and the next.

Daniel Kondo works across writing, illustration and book design. Format, scale, typography, sequence, binding and page turn are considered part of the narrative vocabulary of each project.

Some books begin with an original story. Others emerge from poetry, music, ecology or collaboration. The recurring question is the same: what can a book do that another medium cannot?
