From song to page
A forest rebuilt through image, rhythm and time.
Gilberto Gil wrote Refloresta in 2021 following a request from photographer Sebastião Salgado. The song calls for the active regeneration of forests and damaged landscapes.
Daniel Kondo transforms its musical structure into a sequence of landscapes, animals, human presence, fire and regeneration. Rhythm moves from the song into the page through scale, colour, silence and the physical turn of each spread.
Text, illustration and editorial design are conceived as parts of the same visual narrative.

Visual narrative
The forest becomes the structure of the book.
Biodiversity
River dolphins, toucans, giant otters, anteaters, tapirs, jaguars and insects move through the sequence as inhabitants of a living, interconnected landscape.
Rhythm
Verses, pauses and images receive different durations. Musical rhythm is reorganised through page turns, scale and visual repetition.
Regeneration
Destruction and continuity occupy the same visual sequence. The book follows the possibility of rebuilding a landscape over time.
